The Argent showing is located at the headwaters of a south flowing stream, approximately 4 kilometres north of Iskut River and 48 kilometres southwest (237°) of Bob Quinn Lake on Highway 37.

The oldest rocks in the Argent area are complexly folded and metamorphosed schists and gneisses, and mafic volcanics (basalt) all Devonian age and belonging to the Stikine Assemblage. These are overlain by Devonian to Permian, white to grey, crystalline limestone and other sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. Regionally, these rocks are overlain by a volcanic and sedimentary sequence of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. Late Devonian and Eocene intrusions are mapped in the area.

Major fault structures with attendant joint and fracture patterns crosscut the property. Attitudes vary between north to northwest and east-west.

The Argent showing, located at or within a fault-deflected section of the eastern creek, consists of a series of parallel veins 1 to 15 centimetres wide and up to 15 metres long. They are located along shear fractures associated with a major fault trending east-northeast. The veins are composed of quartz, carbonate, and barite and contain up to 20 per cent pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, tetrahedrite and specular hematite.

In 1988, high grade silver mineralization was located on the Joy 3 claim. This showing, known as the Argent showing, assayed 146.4, 524.56, 2065.0, 4387.8, and 12,673.1 grams per tonne silver from grab samples. The highest grade silver sample also assayed 4.22 grams per tonne gold (George Cross Newsletter #162, August 23, 1988).

Two holes (PJ-88-01,02) totalling 273 metre were drilled to test the down dip strength of a mineralized quartz vein carrying 12673.48 grams per tonne silver and 4.22 grams per tonne gold and more than 2 per cent copper (Assessment Report 18546). On surface, the highly vuggy quartz vein varies between 1 and 15 cm in thickness and contains 10 to 20 per cent galena, tetrahedrite, and specular hematite. Visible strike length of this occurrence is 10 metres. Drilling in 1988 was not considered encouraging.

Romios Gold reported two major lithologies at the Argent showing as granodiorite in the west and a package of volcaniclastic rocks in the east. These lithologies are cut by shear zones striking predominantly between 250 to 290 degrees, though some are oriented at approximately 15 degrees. Mineralized veins within the volcaniclastic rock package are orthogonal to the local bedding, close to the shear zones. Within the volcaniclastic package, there is a bias toward silver mineralization; within the granodiorite quartz veins display a gold bias. Two veins located within the southeast of the Argent Showing contain highly anomalous silver and copper. The three highest grade samples assayed 840 grams per tonne silver, 1.25 per cent copper; 917 grams per tonne silver, 1.69 per cent copper, 0.15 gram per tonne gold; and 1450 grams per tonne silver, 2.76 per cent copper, and 0.22 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 34623). Two veins located approximately 300 metres further north, along the eastern side of the Argent showing, also contain elevated silver and copper. Rock samples from these veins assayed 1.9 grams per tonne silver, 0.39 per cent copper; and 1.6 grams per tonne silver, 0.24 per cent copper (Assessment Report 34623).

Work History

In November of 1987 a set of orthophotographic maps were prepared to cover the Ret 2 7 claims and a structural interpretation was completed by Pamicon Development on behalf of Northwest Gold Syndicate. An airborne geophysical survey was conducted the same year consisting of 40 kilometres of magnetics and EM.

In 1988, OreQuest Consultants Ltd conducted an exploration program on the Joy 3, Ret 2-7 and Ver 1-2 claims on behalf of Pezgold Resources Corporation. A total of 474 rock, 1482 soil and 29 silt samples were collected. Work was mainly divided between two grids, one on the Cannonball (104B 346) occurrence and one on the Argent (104B 348) showing. The larger grid (PJ Grid) located on the eastern margin of the Joy 3 claim, covered 58 hectares around the Argent showing. Grid lines totalled 10,600 metres. The sampling produced 912 soil samples. A VLF-EM (electromagnetic) survey totalling 10.6 kilometres was conducted over the entire grid. Two BQ diamond drill holes totalling 273 metres depth were completed on the Argent.

A much smaller grid (PR Grid) covers 6 hectares around the Cannonball showing, located near the eastern margin of the Ret 6 claim. 295 of the rock samples were collected here.

In 2006 and 2007, Hathor Exploration Ltd. completed a 7228.7 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the IS claims of the Iskut project. In 2008, Max Minerals Ltd. examined the property.

In 2012 Romios Gold Resources completed exploration efforts over the Morning Star Block in the form of prospecting and rock sample collection. Sampling efforts were focused near the Cannonball and Argent showings. In 2013, Romios collected 38 rock grab samples for geochemical assay from quartz veins and silicified volcanic rocks at the Argent property. Samples graded up to 2.76 per cent Cu, 0.215 gram per tonne gold, and 1451 grams per tonne silver from a mineralized quartz vein. In total, five samples from quartz veins at Argent graded over 100 grams per tonne silver, and three graded over 600 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 34623).

In 2013, Romios collected 38 rock grab samples for geochemical assay from quartz veins and silicified volcanic rocks at the Argent property. Samples graded up to 2.76 per cent Cu, 0.215 gram per tonne gold, and 1451 grams per tonne silver from a mineralized quartz vein. In total, five samples from quartz veins at Argent graded over 100 grams per tonne silver, and three graded over 600 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 34623).
